Test Scenario Auto Updater

If you intend to use the empower® Auto Updater, it is recommended to test it with a small test user group before implementing it for all users.

To use and test the empower® Auto Updater, the following requirements must be met:

  • You use the per User installer type for the installation of empower®.

  • You have defined a small test user group.

  • You have defined the number of test users.

  • empower® Support prepares the file RemoteServiceConfig.xml for the test scenario.

Note

The installation package for the test scenario should not be used for the general rollout of empower®.

For the global rollout, you will receive a fresh installation package.

Test the Auto Updater

To test the empower® Auto Updater in your environment, follow the following steps:

  1. If empower® had been installed on the test users' devices before, uninstall empower®.

  2. Install empower® using the provided installation package for the test scenario.

    Only install this package to the test user group's devices.

  3. Inform empower® when the installation has been completed.

    empower® Support then provides the update installation package via the Auto Updater.

  4. Now, observe the Auto Updater behavior.

  5. Inform empower® Support on your test results.

If everything has worked out as expected, uninstall empower® completely from the test users' devices.

To do so, use the empower® Removal Tool.

Note

empower® Support will then provide you with a new installation package of the newest version, including the Auto Updater configuration.

Roll out this new installation package to all users.
