empower® Removal Tool

The empower® Removal Tool can be used to remove empower® completely.

It can be used in troubleshooting scenarios in which it is necessary to remove and reinstall empower®.

Important

Only use the empower® Removal Tool if you are asked to do so by empower® Support!

In general, the tool removes all components that have been installed or added with empower®:

  • All installer and uninstaller information is removed from the Windows Registry and the Windows Package Cache.

  • The add-ins are removed and the integration is removed from Microsoft.

  • All program installation folders are removed.

  • All product-specific entries in the registry hive are removed.

    • This includes all entries under HKLM as well as all user hives.

  • All COM class registrations for the add-in entry point are removed.

  • All user-specific file-based caches, configurations and log files of empower® are removed.

  • All auto-start entries for empower® Components are removed.

  • All start menu entries are removed.

  • All entries located under HKU.DEFAULT are removed.

Requirements for Execution

The following requirements must be met before executing the tool:

  • All Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) need to be closed.

  • You need admin permissions on the respective device.

Execute the Tool

To execute the tool, follow the following steps:

  1. Download the tool from the linked source above.

  2. Extract the .zip file.

    The unzipped folder contains the file empowerRemovalTool.CLI.exe.

  3. Make sure you have admin permissions on the device.

  4. Make sure all Office applications are closed.

  5. Double-click on the file empowerRemovalTool.CLI.exe.

    The tool removes empower® from the device.

    When the tool has finished the process, it produces a return code:

    0 = The removal has been successful.

    7 = Office is still running. The removal could not be executed.

    9 = An unexpected error occurred.

Note

The newest version of the empower® Removal Tool can be used for the most current empower® Version as well as for all older versions.

Note

During the execution, a temporary log file is stored under the execution directory of the tool.
