The Auto Updater is used to roll out updates of empower® across your company. It updates your empower® Version automatically when a new update is distributed by your IT department. The Auto Updater automatically executes update checks every day. |
For the automatic update to work, the following requirements must be fulfilled: |
If all requirements are fulfilled, the Auto Updater starts the installation automatically in the background. After successful installation, you receive a Windows notification (Figure 1, “Successful Installation – Notification in Windows Notification Bar”). The new version is now available. |
Important
If you have enabled the Windows option , you might not be notified.
To check for notifications from the Auto Updater, open the notification pane manually.
In case there is no suitable time span for the Auto Updater to execute the update (e.g. because Office applications are still open), the update cannot be started automatically. |
If the installation cannot be started because Office applications are still open, the Auto Updater retries several times. If the installation could not be started after the interval, a message appears in your Windows notifications. You can then start the installation manually. To do so, make sure Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook) are closed and click on the button (Figure 2, “Button ”). |
An installer window that displays the installation process opens (Figure 3, “Progress Display”). Wait until the update is complete. The window closes after successful installation and you receive another Windows notification (Figure 1, “Successful Installation – Notification in Windows Notification Bar”). The new version is now available and you can restart your Office applications. |
To postpone the update to another time, choose a time from the drop-down menu and then click on the button (Figure 4, “Drop-Down Menu and Button ”). After the selected time, the same message appears again in your Windows notifications. You can then either postpone the update again or install the update manually right away. |
If you dismiss the notification by clicking on the button , the Auto Updater will try again after the default interval (Figure 5, “Button ”). Until then, the notification is removed from your Windows notifications and you cannot start the update manually. |
If the update is not installed over longer time span, the icon for the Auto Updater remains in the information section of the task bar (Figure 6, “Icon for Auto Updater”). Via the icon, you can install the update manually any time. |
To do so, make sure all requirements mentioned above are met and then right-click on the icon and select the option (Figure 7, “Option for Icon in Task Bar”). |
