General improvements

1. The performance of data charts has been improved. In addition to a new performance mode which is used by default, a compatibility mode is also available for certain use cases.
2. Texts (single words or longer text passages or the entire text content of a PPT shape) can now be linked to Excel.
3. Excel links for data charts, Gantt charts, tables or texts can now be created from Excel. For this purpose, new ribbon buttons have been added to the Insert tab in Excel. Both a new or an existing PPT target object can be linked. Native PPT charts can also be used as a target and are converted directly during linking.
4. In the Excel Link Manager, the desired decimal separator and thousands separator can now be defined for linking tables and texts.
5. Formatting (text color, cell fill color) can optionally be applied when linking tables.
6. If empower slides is installed and the empower slides functionality for DeepL¹ translations is enabled, empower charts will also be translated accordingly. However, no data in linked Excel files will be changed.
7. Excel links to files in MFA (Multifactor Authentication) protected Sharepoint or Teams locations are now supported.

New functions in data charts

1. Working with line charts that have a lot of data points has been improved (performance & support of more data points).
2. Value lines, delta lines and growth arrows can now be inserted in dot and bubble charts.
3. Horizontal alignment of the in-chart legend can now be set (left, center, right).
4. Point and bubble charts created with the think-cell² software can be converted.
5. More complex waterfalls (e.g. with adjacent columns) created with the think-cell² software can be converted.
6. Minor improvements and bug fixes.

New functions in Gantt Charts

Known limitations

1. Due to new functions, data charts created or edited with empower charts 8.7 can no longer be edited with older empower charts versions. On the other hand, it is of course possible to edit older data charts with empower charts 8.7 (including new functions).
2. Microsoft's Extended Support for Office 2010 was terminated on October 13, 2020. Office 2010 is still supported for empower charts with restrictions. Currently we are aware of the following problems with Office 2010:
   1. The functionality around date axes does not work under Office 2010 (due to a bug in Office 2010 which is no longer fixed by Microsoft).
   2. Mekko charts are not supported under Office 2010.
