Update empower®

empower® can either be updated via the user interface of the installer or via command-line.

To update empower® via the user interface of the installer, execute the installer via a double-click.

Then, click through the installer.

To do so, follow the instructions under Installer Guide – empower® Suite >= 9.7.

Important

For updates from versions <= 9.5 to version >= 9.7, certain prerequisites must be met.

Important

The information in this article concerns update installations that retain the current installation state, i.e. components are not added or removed from the installation and the hosting option is not changed.

If your set of components changes or if you have changed your hosting option, contact empower® Support for further assistance.

Note

For update installations that retain the current installation state, no additional input such as a payload folder is required.

Update via Command-Line

To update empower® silently via the command-line, use the following command:

msiexec /i [PATH TO .MSI FILE] /q /l*v installer.log 

Using this command, the version will be updated and the current installation state is retained.

Note

To retain the current installation state and avoid issues during the update installation, execute the installation without ADDLOCAL parameters.

Important

If an update from <= 9.5 to >= 9.6 is executed, the command-line must include the ADDLOCAL parameters.

Update with ADDLOCAL Parameters

Usually, updating empower® via command-line does not require ADDLOCAL parameters.

However, if you use ADDLOCAL parameters, the list of parameters must be exhaustive and also include hidden features.

The following ADDLOCAL parameters are available:

  • PowerPoint

  • Word

  • Excel

  • Outlook

  • autoupdater (hidden)

    • required for all per User installations

  • charts (hidden)

    • required for empower® Charts and Chart Creation installations

  • sync (hidden)

    • required for all installations except for syncless installations of empower® Chart Creation or Charts.

If you update empower®, make sure to include all required ADDLOCAL parameters for your installation.

For example, use the following command can be used for an installation of empower® Brand Control which should include all features in all applications:

msiexec /i empowerSuite-perUser-net.msi /q /l*v installer.log ADDLOCAL=PowerPoint,Word,Excel,Outlook,autoupdater,sync
