Replace the Client Secret for Microsoft Entra ID

Hosting Option: empower® Cloud, Corporate Cloud, On-Premises

Required Permissions: IT Admin

If your client secret for the app registration in Microsoft Entra ID has expired, you need to replace the client secret in your app registration.

Note

If you host empower® in the empower® Cloud, empower® Support notifies you before your client secret expires.

To replace the client secret, follow the following steps:

  1. Open the Azure portal.

  2. Navigate to the tab App registrations.

    Here, you can see the status of the client secret.

  3. Select the app registration that you are using for empower®.

  1. On the left-hand side, open the tab Certificates and secrets.

  1. To create a new client secret, click on the button New client secret.

  2. Next to Description, enter the name for the client secret.

  3. In the drop-down menu next to Expires, choose the expiration date for the client secret.

  4. Click on the button Add.

  1. Copy the new client secret and store it securely.

  2. Then, delete the expired client secret.

  3. If you are hosting in the empower® Cloud, send the new client secret to empower® Support.

    To do so, use a one-time password link. You can use one of the following services:

    One Time Pass

    Snappass

    empower® Support then updates your client secret.

Important

The client secret is only visible once.

Make sure to store it securely.

Note

The user interface in the Azure Portal may change any time. If you are unsure about an aspect, refer to Microsoft documentation.

Note

If you are not hosting in the empower® Cloud, you need to update the client secret yourself.

To do so, use the empower® Backend Installer in configure mode.
