Revoke Company Default Master in empower® for PowerPoint

Hosting Option: Corporate Cloud, On-Premises

Required Permissions: IT Admin

If one of your empower® Administrators has set a master template as a company default by mistake or this decision has been revoked, it is always possible to:

  • Upload an additional master template and set the new master template as the company default.

  • Overwrite the existing master template and thus set it as the new company master template.

Important

If you set a new company default by overwriting the old one or uploading a new one, make sure to synchronize via the empower® Sync after saving your changes.

The changes will only become visible to other users after the next automatic or manual synchronization on their device.

For further information regarding the empower® Sync, see empower® Sync.

Note

If the company default is changed, PowerPoint overwrites the default theme stored on the user's device accordingly upon the next start-up. For this first start-up, PowerPoint either opens the personal default master of the user or the old company default.

It may take up to three start-ups until your changes are applied.

To check if the PowerPoint default theme has been changed accordingly, check the locally stored default theme under the following path:

Windows: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes\Default Theme.potx

macOS: /Users/[USER NAME]Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Themes/Default Theme\Default Theme.potx

Note

For further information regarding the set up of a company default master, see Use Master Templates.

For further information regarding the master upload, see Upload a Master Template.

Delete Company Default Master on User's Devices

Even when you have changed the setting on the database as described above, it might be required to check the local cache on the user's devices.

To do so, navigate to the following path:

Windows: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes\Default Theme.potx

macOS: /Library/[USER NAME]/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Themes/Default Theme

Replace the placeholder [USER NAME] by the current user's user name.

Here, delete the current default theme.

Note

If users have set a personal default master that differs from the company default master, the personal default is overwritten by the company default.
