Licensing for empower®

Required Permissions: User, IT Admin 

If you have installed empower® Solutions, you will receive your license when the empower® Sync is started. This usually happens automatically  when Windows is started.

If you have installed empower® Products, you will receive your license when one of the Office applications is started.

This process is separated from the rest of the program itself.

The license is then valid for 30 days. Once the license key has been activated, it will not disappear by an uninstall. After these 30 days, the license will be renewed when the empower® Sync or one of the Office applications is started again.

If there are complications during this renewal, the initial license remains valid for another 60 days. However, during these 60 days, every time the empower® Sync or one of the Office applications is restarted, empower® will try to renew and verify the license.

If there is no contact with the activation server after 90 days, the license becomes invalid and empower® is deactivated.

Note

The licenses are independent of the stored users from the database.

If there are licenses for multiple empower® Solutions or Products present, all licenses are activated at once.

A license is always activated for a specific user. If a user's SID changes, the user automatically activates a new, additional license.

The activation behavior differs depending on the login procedure in the company:

  • If a classic Active Directory is used to log in to the devices, the user can log in to any number of devices with the same user data and always activates the same license because they retain their SID.

    The SID changes when the user is moved to another Active Directory.

    The user then activates an additional license the next time they start empower®.

  • If Microsoft Entra ID is used to log in to the devices, the user receives a new SID each time they log in to other devices and thus activates an additional license when starting empower®.

  • If the user is an exclusively local user tied to the device and receives a new device with a new user, an additional license is activated.

Note

The license activation refers to the Windows user.

The Windows user is not necessarily the same user as the empower® User.
