Filters in the empower® 8 library
Content filters
In order to make navigating through the library simpler, you are able to use content filters to display different types of elements. Currently you can filter by presentations, slides, text & shapes, charts, tables, images, videos, SmartArts, and masters (The filter for masters is only available for folders in which masters are allowed to be placed).
Additionally you can chose languages that have been assigned to your elements previously and define a sorting ("Sort by").
Location filters
To narrow down your search onto a subfolder for example you can use the location that you want to search at (e.g. searching the current folder, all of its subfolder, the current library or all items).
After performing your search query you can now dive even deeper, by searching specifically within the Name, Tags, Heading, Body, Notes, Footer, Author and Editor.
Lastly by clicking on Reset filters or the X you can reset all applied filters at once.
Search conventions in the empower® 8 library
empower®’s search function enables you to utilize different search conventions within your library to make your searches even more efficient. The search function of empower® works both online and offline, as the library content is indexed also locally on your computer.
Wildcards
With wildcard search, you are able to search for groups of items that have similar text in the name, body or tags (see Location filters). The question mark ? is one of two types invoking the wildcard search. This function is useful if you suspect spelling mistakes in the keyword search, as you can now search for “Test” or “Text”.
Using multiple wildcard search, you are able to extend the search by any number of symbols directly after the actual search term. This means you can search for “Test”, Tests”, “Tester”, etc by using the asterisk symbol *
Boolean search
You also have a number of operators, which allow you to combine different search terms for a boolean search.
AND will combine two search terms. This means that empower® will search for a document that contains both of the stated search terms. Take note that all operators are required to be typed in uppercase.
OR will tell empower® to search for documents that contain either of the search terms you have entered.
The NOT operator specifies your search. This means that if you search for a term, you are able to exclude files that contain a term you enter after NOT. Thus, empower® will display documents that only contain the first term, but not the second.
With a plus symbol + you are able to search for two terms at once. The term directly after the “+” must be contained within the file, while the second term does not necessarily have to be in the file. Take note that you do not type a space between + and the search term.
